Bloomsburg Falls to Kutztown in Women's Basketball

BLOOMSBURG -- The Bloomsburg University women's basketball team fell to Kutztown, 55-43, in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division action on Saturday.

Bloomsburg (6-18, 2-7 PSAC East) controlled the game for most of the first half. The Huskies took an early 12-8 lead on a jumper by Colleen Kegerreis (Schuylkill Haven/Schuylkill Haven) with 14:21 left in the first half. Bloomsburg maintained the lead throughout the rest of the first half and led 24-20 going into halftime. Kelly Joyce (Ashland/Cardinal Brennan) led Bloomsburg with eight first half points.

Early in the second half, Bloomsburg extended their lead to six points on another jumper by Kegerreis. Five minutes later, with the Huskies still leading by six, Kutztown would go on a 15-2 run and took a 37-30 lead with 8:59 remaining. Kutztown's Rachel Weidensaul was the catalyst during the run scoring eight points, including two three-pointers. The Golden Bears controlled the game from that point and continued to extend their lead throughout the remainder of the game.

Kirby Johnson (Woodstown, NJ/Woodstown) scored a game-high 15 points to lead Bloomsburg. Weidensaul scored 13 points and Rachel Wisemiller scored 10 points to lead Kutztown. With the win, Kutztown improves to 8-15, 4-5 in the PSAC East.

Bloomsburg will visit East Stroudsburg on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
